Packing for Powder: A Cold-Weather Checklist That Actually Works

Forget influencer gear lists. This is what you really need when it’s -15°C and the flakes are sideways.

Layers that breathe (but don’t bail)

Base: Merino. Mid: synthetic grid fleece. Outer: waterproof shell. Skip the fashion stuff — focus on what stays dry and keeps moving.

Gloves that work

Bring two pairs. One for riding. One for dry backup when you lose the first in the lodge or soak them on the lift.

Buffs > scarves

Neck gaiters and face tubes work better, freeze less, and pack smaller. Cotton kills — go synthetic or merino.

Good goggles, not good-looking goggles

Invest in high-contrast lenses for stormy days. Fog resistance > brand logo.

A repair kit for your pack

Ski strap. Zip ties. Multitool. Duct tape. Just trust us.

Packing light doesn’t mean packing lazy. Think layers, backups, and a few key tools — and you’ll be ready when the weather turns from epic to “are we still doing this?”
